I know for sure that racism/sexism still exists today. One of my findings is that I think that my work place is actually one of them. When I first started working at the restaurant I'm working at now I wanted to be a waiter, yet the manager assigned me the job of a buss boy and food server. I also noticed that overtime when she hired new people it was the males that did the labor jobs, and every new female face I saw always had the waitress job. I still work for the place because I need to survive in this recession but that right there is a prime example of sexism. The other day I was watching the news on TV there was a Muslim family that was refused by American Airlines because the wife asked the question " where's the safest place to sit?". After that they were denied from getting on the flight. Racism/sexism is still around today and that people today still take it seriously, now here is a controversial one that's got a lot of people talking is that a rapper by the name of "Nas" not too long ago released an album and titled it "Nigga". How are we in society suppose to react to something such as that especially when a white teenager or person wants to buy it in a retail store? Are they looked upon differently than those people who have black skin color that purchase the album? We see it everyday yet because Obama's president now racism is over, but not by a long shot.

Sexism and racism are ideas that we receive from previous generations which are then reinforce by media and propaganda. It will not end easily because it isn’t a matter of law but rather the need more a world wide change in our perception and that can only happen gradually over time.
ReplyDeleteFor sure...I expierence the same thing when it comes to my work world..as you heard my story earlier..lol..anyhow this is an issue that will be around forever until humanity ends...we are highly influenced people as a society when it comes to perception and peoples view but some has to do with natural instincts... so as long as we are human this will always be an issue...and the thing about nas definitly a good quetsion..its funny you say that my brother loves nas and owns that album..I should ask him how he got looked at when he purchased it...great response!
ReplyDeleteStill exists and in every corner of every facet of society. The US is an interesting place because of the diversity that exists here. Because of us seeing and interacting with people with many histories that vary, we are more used to just being okay with differences. But, that only exists in small pockets. Competition creates racism, sexism, whateverism.
ReplyDeleteI believe so that the racism and sexism still exit today. They are not only being in the US, but also the other place in this world. In China, although we don’t have many races there, but we still have the social problem of sexism. Things always have been separated to “should be done by men” and “should be done by women”. Although the women have stepped out to speak for themselves in the earlier time, the unfair treating is still going under the society. I think things should be better in the US than in China, as people can have more freedom here.
