Blog #2 "freedom of speech"
There are some people out that still believe in racism, and I don’t think that’s cool at all. Any ways we had to wear uniforms in middle school. I remember it was green collar shirt and khaki pants the whole way. In my high school no gang colors were allowed, no drug affiliated clothing was allowed. No red or blue doo rags, no hanging belts. I mean I can see how that would prevent violence and demote gang activity. At the JC I think you can wear whatever you want as long as you don’t start trouble with anybody. The banning of the Obama T-shirt was still wrong to be banned but I think that it was for the boy’s safety. That boy could’ve been beaten, I’ve seen and heard a few racist stories where somebody got beat or killed because of discrimination. I just hope that one day out Nation can leave stuff like that in the past.

In my high school in Thailand, we also had to wear the uniforms too! No drugs, no anything. But at the J.C. people can wear whatever they want, so maybe it might causes some troubles to someone that we don’t know. So, the school just wants to protect us as a student from troubles.
ReplyDeleteResponding to the first sentence of your response. If you think about it, there is old racism and new racism, the old racism takes places in the South where whites still believe in the confederate flag and KKK members still hold strong numbers. The new racism is what takes places in California, mainly, which is white discrimination towards Spanish and Mexicans.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't have to wear uniforms to my middle school, but I remember it was just about the same as your rules. Except the hanging belts, which seems to go a bit further.
The problem is how much restriction is too much. If nothing we did offend anybody and vise versa I don’t think anyone would be left with a real opinion. I hope we can reach a point were we can have opinion and still get along with those around us.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the part were you talk about racism, i to belief that there is still a lot of it. That was one of the reasons i belief that the young boy was not ale to wear the Obama shirt to school.
ReplyDeleteIt is so crappy to thing that people get beat up for something they wear. People can be so incredibly cruel. It makes me wonder how these people were raised, and why they are so angry to physically hurt somebody else over something so stupid in this day and age. I agree with uniforms, at least that way the school eliminates violence and discrimination at school. Kids can wear what they want on their own time or when they get older.
